The paper focuses on the following samples of media material: Davide Ferrario’s Tutta colpa di Giuda (2008), a film set in an Italian prison that references Hamlet; Alfredo Peyretti’s Moana (2009), which is about the life of Italian porn star Moana Pozzi, and incorporates lines from A Midsummer Night’s Dream; a 2001 episode of Crime Scene Investigation entitled “Caged” that makes citations from Othello interact with an investigation into what looks like a murder; and Connie Macatuno’s Rome and Juliet (2006), a Filipino experimental film that turns Shakespeare’s tragic love story into a lesbian romance. In his 1895 adaptation of Aristophanes’ Lysistrata prepared for the Kraków Theatre, Stanisław Koźmian, wishing to avoid stage ‘archaeologism,’ based the text on the contemporary adaptation by Charles Maurice Don- nay, to which he added several scenes taken from the Greek original. The ambitious plan to translate a theatrical experience from over two thousand years ago into the language of modern communication was achieved by introducing contemporary political allusions. The premiere was consid- ered a scandal, and, according to the surviving copy with notes updating the allusions, the performance was not continued in in the Lwów threatre. Tacitus on Titus? Visit to the Temple of Venus at Paphos

This article deals with Titus? visit to the temple of Venus at Paphos in the second book of Tacitus? Historiae. I argue that apart from its other literary intentions already mentioned by scholars, this digression implicitly connects Titus not only with Aeneas but also with Julius Caesar. Titus? affair with Berenice that recalls Caesar?s affair with Cleopatra, Tacitus? allusions to Lucan?s De Bello Civili where Caesar?s visit to the tomb of Alexander the Great is described, the ?????Motiv and fortuna?s favour that characterise both Roman generals, all contribute to connect Titus with Caesar and allow the reader to view a parallel between the Flavian and the Julio-Claudian dynasty.
